About the Artist
Chen Jing-Rong (1934-) has dedicated his life to the promotion and creation of art. His works are primarily centered around oil painting, deeply influenced by his time studying at the Mural Research Institute of Tokyo University of the Arts, especially drawing inspiration from the landscapes and legends of the Banqiao area. Chen’s works are characterized by a collage technique that incorporates figures and found objects into desolate landscapes, with the greyish monochromatic tones of his oil paintings highlighting the surreal, dreamlike atmosphere. His creations integrate his experiences of traveling around the world, exploring themes of foreign cultures, myths, and religion, with a strong foundation in art history.
In Taiwan's early art scene, Chen Jing-Rong was a prominent member of the "May Painting Association" (established in 1956). In addition to oil painting, he was also skilled in murals, printmaking, and sketching. Moreover, he was selected multiple times to exhibit at the Salon in France and became a member of the French Autumn Salon in 1994. His works are held in the collections of several important institutions both in Taiwan and internationally, including the National Museum of History, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, as well as the Vatican Museums and the French National Library. His artistic achievements have earned widespread recognition and honor.
