About the Artist

Lan Jung-Hsien was born in 1944 in Jiaoxi, Yilan, Taiwan. His early artistic education was shaped by the mentorship of Hsieh Li-Fa and Yang Chien-Chung. During his studies in the Fine Arts Department at the National Taiwan Academy of Arts, he was taught by influential painters such as Li Mei-Shu, Li Tse-Fan, Li Shih-Chiao, Liao Chi-Chun, and Liao Te-Cheng—an experience that laid a solid foundation for his creative development.

Lan’s distinctive style is defined by expressive brushwork and vivid color, blending the fluidity of watercolor with the rich texture of oil painting. Drawing inspiration from natural landscapes—mountains, open fields, oceans, and deep valleys—he constructs compositions that are both flowing and minimal. His paintings carry a strong poetic resonance, using visual rhythm and spatial openness to distill a profound interpretation of life’s energy and the beauty of nature.
