About the Artist
Jiang Ruei-Keng (1922-2007) was born in Ruifang and received early education in the Japanese style. Driven by his love and dedication to art, he persevered through economic hardships to study at the Kawabata Art School in Tokyo. At the age of 20, he returned to Taiwan and worked in a mine, spending 40 years in the mining industry until his retirement in 1982.
His deep understanding of the miner's life was reflected in his work, as he used sketchbooks and brushes to document the experiences of his fellow miners. These experiences were integrated into his artistic creations, earning him the title of "The Miner Artist."
In 1975, his work "Jiufen Scenery" was selected for the National History Museum's Contemporary Masters Exhibition and was also showcased in the U.S. Bicentennial Exhibition. His work "Ancient Temple" was acquired by the Dupont Art Museum. His style is characterized by bold and free colors, with powerful brushwork that still holds delicate details. His spontaneous pieces are full of charm and vibrant energy.
