Lin Chin-Piao
About the Artist
Lin Chin-Piao, born in 1962 in Yilan, Taiwan, graduated from the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Paris VIII in France. His art draws from surrealism, but it does not include the common elements of the unconscious and dreams often associated with surrealism. Instead, he is influenced by the metaphysical painting of Giorgio de Chirico, which is considered a style that constructs new objects through painting, rooted in metaphysical psychology.
Lin Chin-Piao’s artistic style is akin to the "surrealism without the unconscious" that aesthetician Fredric Jameson defends. His work goes beyond the boundaries of surrealism and modernism, entering the context of postmodernism. He often uses rocks and caves as creative subjects, exploring their natural significance while blending Eastern humanistic spirit with Western rock art influences. Through anthropomorphism and symbolic transformation, he expresses the past, present, and future of time. His mastery of realism, combined with his pursuit of spiritual dimensions and visual vocabulary, creates works that are filled with spiritual energy. For this, he is regarded as the "spiritual visionary surrealist painter."
