Lee Jungwoong
About the Artist
Lee Jungwoong, born in 1963 in Gyeongbuk, South Korea, is a member of the Korean Fine Arts Association. He has received the Special Prize at the National Art Exhibition of the Republic of Korea in 1985, 1992, and 1993. To date, he has held 20 solo exhibitions in South Korea and participated in several important international exhibitions between 1996 and 2005, including the "Stars" exhibition in Paris, France, and the NICAF in Japan. He has also participated in the Shanghai Art Fair for five consecutive years, gaining international recognition.
Lee Jungwoong is known for his calligraphy works on Hanji (traditional Korean paper). This technique allows the natural texture and creases of the paper to emerge, adding an element of intrigue to his pieces. His brushstroke works seem to reflect the artist's introspection as he contemplates his creations, much like someone deep in thought about their accomplishments. Lee Jungwoong's works have been well-received internationally, partly due to the profound meanings they carry. His art is not only calligraphy but a fusion of various styles such as performance art, abstract art, and realism, expressed in a minimalist manner that conveys the essence of Eastern culture.
