Lee Chu-Hsin

About the Artist

Lee Chu-Hsin, born in 1966 in Taipei, later earned a Master's degree in Fine Arts from Fontbonne University in Missouri, USA. His paintings often exude an atmosphere of suspense, ambiguity, and underlying meaning. His early works presented intense dreamlike and dramatic visual scenes, sparking expectations in viewers about the depths of consciousness. In recent years, his creations have directly explored the real-life circumstances of objects and their existence.

Lee Chu-Hsin’s artwork skillfully portrays the subtle relationship between reality and illusion. By focusing on specific details with a light source, the surrounding environment is often shrouded in darkness, leaving the subject in a quiet and elusive state. His artistic thought moves from the exploration of hidden realities to revealing the context of truth in painting, showing his profound insight into the delicate balance between existence and illusion.

On February 2, 2019, Lee Chu-Hsin passed away at the age of 53 after a long battle with illness. He was an important figure in the art world and, despite battling cancer, worked tirelessly to establish a museum. He served as the director of the Yu Xiu Art Museum, which opened in 2016. Located beneath the picturesque Jiujiu Peak in Nantou, Taiwan, the museum is renowned for having one of the most beautiful scenic views in the country, attracting over 100,000 visitors.
