Koso Sato
About the Artist
Koso Sato was born in 1948 in Akita City, Japan. He graduated in 1970 from the Oil Painting Department of Musashino Art University. In 1977, he went to Paris to study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and won the Santatama Artist Exhibition Excellence Award in 1978. He was later invited to Taiwan, and due to his love for Taiwan's local culture, he began holding solo exhibitions there in 1989. He lived in Taiwan for more than a decade.
Koso Sato's paintings are vibrant, exuding a romantic sentiment with an intense expressionist style. Inspired by postmodern consciousness, his works vividly express unique thoughts and emotions about people, things, and the world around him. Whether in his early impressionist and expressionist works or later in his new cubism and abstract style, Koso Sato's art has had a significant influence on Taiwan’s middle-generation and younger artists.
